A tower built on a rocky peak is struck by lightning. The crown at its top is blown off, and two figures fall. Flames burst from the windows. Yod-shaped flames fall through the sky on either side of the tower, often counted by occult interpreters as twenty-two (the twelve zodiac signs plus the ten sephiroth), though Waite himself does not specify a number. The tower was built by human ego; the lightning is truth that cannot be contained.
