Commemoration of the death of the prophet Zarathushtra, observed on the 11th day (Khorshed, dedicated to the sun) of the 10th month (Dae, dedicated to Ahura Mazda). Tradition holds that Zarathushtra was murdered at the age of 77 while praying before the sacred fire in the fire temple at Balkh. His death did not diminish the cosmic fire he kindled. Zoroastrians mark this day with prayers, visits to fire temples, and reflection on his revelation that the universe is a battleground between Asha (truth) and Druj (falsehood), a battle in which every human soul is a combatant.
