Egúngún Ancestors Night (Day of the Dead Convergence)

In the Yoruba diaspora (Brazil, Cuba, Trinidad), the Egúngún ancestral tradition converges with Catholic All Souls Day. Masked dancers embody returned ancestors, their layered cloth costumes swirling. No one may touch the Egúngún; isan (whip-bearers) keep the crowd at a safe distance. The dead speak through the mask.
