Galungan (Balinese Victory of Dharma over Adharma)

The most important ceremony in the Balinese Pawukon (210-day) calendar. Ancestral spirits visit the earth for ten days. Every household erects penjor (tall curved bamboo poles with offerings) along the roads. Temples are decorated, and families prepare elaborate offerings. Galungan celebrates the victory of good (dharma) over evil (adharma). Kuningan, ten days later, marks the ancestors’ return to heaven.
