The most private Norse ceremony. Performed at individual farms, the Álfablót honored the álfar (elves), ancestral spirits dwelling in burial mounds. In the poem Austrafararvísur, the skald Sigvatr was turned away from every farm during Álfablót because outsiders were forbidden. No communal gathering, no temple: just each family alone with their dead in the dark of late October.
