Sharad Purnima (Kojagari Purnima)

The autumn full moon, when moonlight is believed to contain amrit (nectar of immortality). Milk left under the open sky absorbs lunar healing properties and is consumed at dawn. This is the night of the Maha Raas Lila, Krishna’s cosmic dance with the gopis in Vrindavan. In Ayurveda, this is the one night when moonlight has direct medicinal potency, and practitioners prepare special moon-charged preparations (chandrika aushadhi).
