December 17 marks both Rumi’s ‘Wedding Night’ (Sheb-i Arus, his death in 1273, celebrated by Sufis) and the birth of Paracelsus in 1493 in Einsiedeln, Switzerland. The alchemical tradition marks the date as the birth of ’the Luther of Medicine’ who broke Galenic orthodoxy and opened the door to chemical medicine and Hermetic natural philosophy.
