A calendar built from a lineage
Western esotericism never had a church or a fixed liturgical year, so its modern followers built one from their own history. This calendar marks the births and deaths of the figures the tradition claims as ancestors, the alchemists and the occult reformers, alongside the founding dates of its orders and the feast of its mythical patron.
At its centre stands Hermes Trismegistus, the legendary ’thrice-great’ sage to whom the Hermetic writings were ascribed, the imagined fountainhead of alchemy and magic. Around him cluster the real historical anchors: the burning of Giordano Bruno in 1600, the death of Paracelsus, and the founding of the Golden Dawn. Some are martyrs to the tradition, some its teachers.
What this calendar holds
This is a remembrance calendar more than a ritual one, a way for a scattered tradition to keep its own saints’ days. We mark it as what it is: not an ancient liturgical year, but a modern map of esoteric memory, dated to the lives of the people who carried the work.
