Beginning of Peret (Emergence / Growing Season)

The second Egyptian season begins as floodwaters recede, leaving behind rich black silt. Farmers returned to their fields for planting. The word Peret means ‘coming forth,’ referring to the land emerging from the flood. This was the season of sowing barley, emmer wheat, and flax across the newly fertilized soil.
