Sunlight penetrates 60 meters into the Great Temple of Ramesses II at Abu Simbel, illuminating three of four statues in the inner sanctuary: Ra-Horakhty, Amun, and Ramesses II. The fourth statue, Ptah (god of the underworld), remains in shadow. Traditionally linked to Ramesses II’s birthday. The phenomenon lasts about 20 minutes at dawn.
