The Inca month dedicated to the dead, when ancestor mummies (mallki) were brought out of their tombs, dressed in fresh clothing, and paraded through the streets of Cusco. Families offered food and chicha to the mummies and danced with them in the public squares. After Spanish colonization, the practice merged with All Saints’ Day and persists in Andean communities as a feast of remembrance.
